Dug up some old records from the basement. Right now I'm jamming to God Don't Make No Junk by The Halo Benders. It's making college app essays less crappy.

I'm looking to get into some new stuff. Is this good?

I like it. It's Doug Martsch from Built to Spill and Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson. It's kind of weird music, admittedly, and Calvin Johnson seems like a little bit of a twat, but I really like this album nonetheless. "Sit On It" could almost be a Fall/Pavement track.

Cool! I listened to "Rebels Not In" pretty much nonstop freshman year of college. I saw Calvin Johnson perform in somebody's living room. This was my favorite song:
The Halo Benders - Virginia Reel Around The Fount…:

Such a great song, I really love this version. I also really love Built to Spill's, but they're just two different flavors. My dad saw them live at Cellophane Square in 1996 or so.

Well Doug is certainly the more talented half of Halo Benders, but I came from the opposite direction.
My buddies and I got into K Records through "One Foot in the Grave" by Beck
One day at the used tape store we saw the K logo on a band called Beat Happening. We bought it, took it home, and.... it was the most horrible thing ever. We would play it to punish people or make them laugh. Over time it grew on us and we really got that so good its bad feeling
Beat Happening is Calvin Johnson of course, and after Halo Benders started releasing I found out about Built to Spill.

That's awesome! I've never seen a One Foot cassette. I'm seeing Built to Spill for the fifth or sixth time tomorrow night at the Showbox @ the Market (Seattle). Super excited, per usual. I'm kind of in that I can't stand it but I love it feel with Iceage right now.

I'll do my best, but it really shouldn't be hard. Last time I saw them was hair-raisingly good. It was at the Fremont street fair and they were told to stop three or four times, but kept going. Word around town was that they had to pay fines for playing past sound curfew. People were climbing over the fence to get into this alleyway stage. They closed with Carry The Zero and you could feel the concrete shake from everyone jumping around. It was amazing. My dad left to see Wussy, and as cool as that would have been, I'm glad I stuck around to see BTS.
